Matthew Wehling: Bowmaker/Archetier

"Matt Wehling's viola bows have the ability to draw a beautiful, rich tone as well as be lively bows for chords and off the string playing.  I like the flexibility combined with strength and strong tone his bow provides for me."
- Andrea Een, viola professor, St. Olaf College

Viola Bows

Viola bows seem to be of two types – small cello bows or big violin bows. Wehling bases his viola model on the latter, which results in a bow that is elastic and responsive, allowing for consistent playability and excellent tracking. Wehling's viola bows tend to be slightly lighter than most, weighing 69–72 grams. He considers this model one of his specialties and has found that many violists desire a bow like this. Wehling's first priority, however, is to meet your needs and is willing to work with you to make exactly the bow you have in mind.
