Matthew Wehling: Bowmaker/Archetier

“Thanks for sending me this bow.  It’s beautiful in every way. You do excellent work and your attention to detail is apparent in everything you sent, from the bow to the wrapping to the thoughtful accompanying letter on the nicely designed stationery.”
- Dennis Luxion, Chicago, Illinois

Specialty Bows

Matt Wehling tends to make two types of special orders, those with specific desires for playability, and bows with specialized ornamentation. He receives many commissions to tailor a bow for a player's certain needs and enjoys the challenge of fulfilling these requests. In tailoring a bow to someone, Wehling will often have the player come into his shop to complete the final stages of planing and cambering the stick.

Viola bow with stylized art deco awabi inlay

Violin Bow with microphoto of Wehling's son inserted into the eye of the frog, as was often done by J.B. Vuillaume in the mid-nineteenth century.

3/4 scale bow made for an emerging prodigy. Frog was made without any decoration to reduce cost.

Frog made with ornamentation in the style of Lupot, where shell replaces metal in the heel plates.
